Your joy at travelling again is contagious.
Covid clearly hammered the hospitality industry, but your nominations show how the best pandemic pivots continue to pay dividends — from outdoor dining to a growing network of greenways, improving pet-friendly stays and accelerated trends like cashless stays.
Co Kerry is a standout example of working the challenges to its advantage, providing not just your number one Irish holiday this year, but your favourite hotel, B&B and Irish breakfast. We also see evolutionary leaps in the quality of camping, cabins and walking trails.
It’s clear from your comments that the cost of living and sustainability will be increasingly urgent concerns in 2023. “Value” was a word that cropped up over and over again.
“Craic” is another word used countless times, and Irish holidaymakers clearly love businesses that show attention to detail and properly balance friendliness and professionalism.
As just one example, you dubbed The Europe “high-class without being snotty”.
This year saw a record number of nominations, giving our judges lots to debate and priceless insights into your holiday habits.
You’ll notice that we’ve shaken up our categories (adding ‘ Best Walk or Trail’, for example), welcomed a new voice to our judging panel in Roz Purcell, and reintroduced overseas holidays — including Best City Break, Fly ’n’ Flop and Travel Agent categories. We aim to continue evolving as your travels do.
As always, our citations feature as many of your comments as possible. Thank you for taking the time to write them!
