Reader Travel Awards: Galway’s The Twelve ticks every box for dog lovers, our readers say
“It’s important that our furry friends are as happy as us,” one reader said, tipping The Twelve as their top pet-friendly stay.
They weren’t alone. Readers from all over Ireland recommended the Barna bolthole for its bow-wow factor.
“Even your doggie is a VIP when they stay here,” you told us.

Comments cited not just the hotel’s pet-friendly rooms, but special pet menus with room service, personalised welcome notes, and goodie bags on arrival, and a pet lobby with toys, leashes, treats and water.
There is also “no extra charge” (though there is a €50 deposit).
The pandemic saw a puppy boom in Ireland, and hospitality has been adapting as we seek to bring new family members on staycation.
‘Pet-friendly’ means different things in different places, however, so be sure to check on costs, size limits and what exactly is and isn’t allowed (dogs in dining areas, for example. In The Twelve, pets are allowed in restaurants at the manager’s discretion).
The Twelve sets a gold standard, readers said, as “the pawfect hotel to visit with your pooch — they haven’t just jumped on the dog-friendly bandwagon”. It’s always willing “to spoil my pet and give her loads of attention”, another guest added.
“They really love dogs there!” thetwelvehotel.ie
