The fashion designer chats about her favourite people, places and things.

The person

Well, I can't reduce that to one person. The answer is my four children - Fainche, Brannagh, Iseult and Faolan. I don't know any love like that.

The memory

Listening to really loud music, as a teenager, in my bedroom in the west of Ireland - especially The Lion and The Cobra by Sinead O'Connor. Seeing Sinead O'Connor for the first time on The Late Late Show, I thought she was a goddess.

The moment of the day

When an idea in a collection really 'heats up' and looks like something new and exciting that I want to put my name to.

The song

Baidin Fheilimí [Phelim's Boat] I sing it to my children, and it has deeply personal memories.

The movie

Perry Ogden's Pavee Lackeen.

The hero

The working parent everywhere, and basically balancing that.

The book

Too many to mention. I'm currently reading Presence by Patsy Rodenburg. She's head of voice at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and was, up until recently, the director of voice at London's National Theatre. I believe it's a book for everyone.

The outfit

These days, it's all Joanne Hynes from Dunnes Stores!

The accessory

My tiger lady iPhone cover. It comes everywhere with me.

The gadget

I just rediscovered the power of an eyelash curler again, after years of neglect.

The drink

If I had a drink, it would be Remy Martin and Baileys with ice. I haven't drunk alcohol in years.

The hobby

Imagining that I have the time - and energy - to give to one.

The friend

My friend Eoin Lyons from LyonsKelly Architecture, who goes way beyond the ordinary in terms of friendship goals.

The piece of advice

"I want you to do you!" From Dunnes Stores's Margaret Heffernan.

The pet hate

The kind of people who misuse their power. Being respectful to everyone is the new wave of doing business - intimidation is the old wave.

The hotel

The Sheraton Hong Kong, for frequent long and intense design-and-research trips.

The bar

Any old-man's bar where it's peaceful, and where there is a turf fire.

The beauty product

Scent. I love Parfumarija in the Westbury Mall, Dublin.

The virtue

Taking the time to get to know oneself.

The vice

Nothing very exciting, apart from the odd hot chocolate.

The part of my body

My left hand - it has served me well so far.

The celebrity

Recently, I'm amazed by the robust talents of Lady Gaga. I was so moved when she posted my embellished leather hairband on her Instagram feed three times in less than five minutes.

The holiday

Inis Meain in the Aran Islands, every time.

The smell

My 16-month-old's hair and the back of his little neck.

The taste

Give me a fried-egg sandwich on brown bread any time.

Joanne Hynes's spring/summer Collection 2018 'You Do You and I'lll Do Me' launches on March 1. It will be available from Dunnes Stores branches in St Stephen's Green Shopping Centre, Grafton Street, Cornelscourt, and online
