The loves of my life: Arlene McIntyre
The creative director and interior designer chats about her favourite people, places and things
That would be the two Aquarians in my life - my partner of 15 years, Juergen, and my mom, Cella.
I thankfully have many happy memories, but a distant one would be growing up in California, which definitely shaped me as a person. A recent memory is of our holiday in Istanbul, with friends, back in May, and paragliding off a cliff in Kas, Turkey.
The moment of the day
The best part of every day is walking our dogs in the Phoenix Park. This is definitely the happiest time of the day for me.
You Can't Always Get What You Want by the Rolling Stones.
I have tons, but the one that stands out for me would be the modern adaption of Charles Dickens's classic, Great Expectations.
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
My mom, Cella, has suffered with CFS [chronic fatigue syndrome] since 1986, but she never gave up on hope and recovery. She never took no for an answer. I admire her steel grit,
and her determination in life.
These days, I'm all about comfort. My daily uniform would be jeans, a cosy cashmere, a good pair of suede ankle-boots, and a killer handbag that holds everything.
I love watches, but I always end up wearing my Cartier Santos watch, as it's a classic. I also love to wear my chunky silver bracelets from Italy.
My Samsung phone. I hated my phone at first - but we eventually made peace with one another, and are now best friends!
The pet hate
I'm totally allergic to negative people.
Sourcing for my business, Ventura Design, is my number-one favourite hobby. Whatever country I'm in, I always end up strolling into design shops and art galleries. I love all things art, interior design and photography.
The beauty product
I recently purchased Leather, a fragrance from Aqua di Parma. It's divine, and lovely to wear in the evening.
Erika. She makes me laugh so much, and she's always been there for me over the years. We have these crazy unicorn moments together, where we start up on one subject that can lead to anything.
Always Italy, but we are looking forward to our next trip to Istanbul. And getting into the hot air balloons in Cappadocia [in central Turkey]. India is on my to-do list.
The piece of advice
Feel the fear and do it anyway. I also never offer my opinion or advice unless I'm asked. I always feel it's difficult to offer real advice unless you've walked a mile in someone else's shoes. Everyone has their own story.
Friends of ours brought us to the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France, last July, and it was so amazing. In Ireland, we loved our stay at the beautiful Ballyfin Demesne, in Co Laois. Adare Manor in Limerick is also incredible.
The Sidecar cocktail bar in the Westbury Hotel. I adore the decor and the atmosphere.
Ruinart Rose Champagne as a special treat, or a White Lady cocktail in the Savoy Hotel in London, please! It's all about those special moments that help to make a drink taste better.
The part of my body
I don't think about it too much. My hair, I guess, once it's well-conditioned.
Oprah Winfrey. She seems so fun, insightful, intelligent and powerful all at the same time.
Patience and being grateful. I try and practice patience on a daily basis, and make time to stop and smell the roses whenever I can.
Being late for everything. No matter how hard I try to be on time, I'm always late.
