Taste test Organic Smoked Salmon

For Christmas, we decided to splash out on organic smoked salmon.

Old Millbank Smokehouse Organic Smoked Salmon (Avoca), 100g, €5.75, 9/10

Buttevant's product is smoked over beechwood, which gives it a unique flavour. Delicious oiliness.

Burren Smokehouse Smoked Irish Organic Salmon, 100g, €6.60, 9/10

Delicate smoking and lovely texture, this salmon from Clare was our testers' joint favourite.

Dunnes Stores Simply Better Oak Smoked Organic Irish Salmon, 160g, €10, 8/10

Smoked over oak with honey and dill, this mild smoked salmon has a slightly sweet flavour that our testers liked. Made by Burren Smokehouse.

Aldi Specially Selected Organic Smoked Irish Salmon, 130g, €3.99, 7/10

A distinctive smoky flavour that's assertive enough while not masking the flavour of the fish. Good value.

Lidl Deluxe Irish Organic Smoked Salmon, 95g, €2.99, 6/10

The Lidl smoked salmon is a great price and the fish has a very good flavour and texture.

Donnybrook Fair Organic Smoked Irish Salmon, 100g, €6.45, 5/10

There's a very pleasant residual oaky smokiness to the Donnybrook Fair smoked salmon, but the texture is flabby.

Ummera Irish Smoked Organic Salmon, 100g, €8.95, 5/10

There's a barely discernible smoked flavour to the salmon from Ummera in Timoleague, Co Cork. It was the most expensive of all the products we tested.
