Caroline and Nicola Kilkenny are the siblings behind Sisters - a new label which plays to our desire for contemporary glamour, writes our Fashion Editor
A lot of international fashion brands introduce 'little sister' ranges that sit to the right of the main label and offers a different, often younger take on their fashion offering.
In recent years, Victoria Beckham did it successfully, and now Irish designer Caroline Kilkenny has done it with her Sisters collection. Appropriately, she has the support of her younger sister, Nicola, who has rejoined her in the business they started together as N+C Kilkenny.
When Nicola took time out as a young mum, the Caroline Kilkenny label was born and now Nicola, an experienced designer, is back to concentrate on the business and marketing end. "But I'm also chipping in about what the customer wants and I go with Caroline to the fabric fairs," she says.
For Spring/Summer '19, one of the two glamour stars in the Sisters range is the 'Thompson' jumpsuit (pictured main) in a clever black crêpe fabric "which gives a lot of contour to the body but there's ease of movement with this fabric and then the high sheen, satin-backed taffeta peplum bow adds impact and glamour," explains Caroline.
Ideal for summer occasions and weddings, the jumpsuit also comes in red with a slightly pale red peplum bow.
Sitting beside the mainline range which delivers chic feminine tailoring with interesting fabrications, Caroline says Sisters is: "More geared to the girl who wants to dress up and go out. It is more fun and flirty and there are lovely elements this season like the sequinned chiffon on the 'Scott' dress (pictured above in blush)."
For those heading to a black-tie wedding, I think the second version with white V-neck top and black chiffon skirt, minus sequins, is a gorgeous option. Watch out for dresses in shorter lengths with flippy hemlines and nice prints in easy-care, viscose fabrics that look and feel like silk.
The floaty 'Herrera' dress (above right) would look great styled with trainers daytime and heels by night.
