The things you need to know about switching
ESB's market share has fallen to between 70% and 80% but the Commission for Energy Regulation has decided that the share must fall to 60% before they deregulate the domestic electricity market.
This could happen by early 2011 and, when it does, all operators, including the ESB, will be able to compete on price. But don't wait. Start saving now and switch again if a better offer appears.
1The product is the same and ESB Networks and Bord Gais Networks still service the supply.
2There is no work required to change supplier; "same wires and same plugs".
3Have your account number and meter tariff number (MPRN / GPRN) ready when calling or logging on to switch. And take a meter reading to speed up the process.
4There is no minimum contract; if you switch you can change supplier again.
5Pensioners and special services customers can avail of an identical service from all suppliers.
