Tesco Handwash, Magnolia and Silk, 500ml

Liquid soap in a dispenser is very handy and needless to say comes in many different scents and of varying quality and price. So this week we tested four own-brand hand washes. All are basic rather than premium products but after lots of washing our hands never felt cleaner! We scored on price, scent, and how clean and soft our hands felt afterwards.

Tesco Handwash, Magnolia and Silk, 500ml

€0.85 (€1.70 / Lt)

Verdict: This was our favourite because we felt an immediate softness on washing and it left our hands feeling softer that the others, not a surprise given it contains "added moisturisers". The scent was quite light and pleasant and this was a good price -- exactly the same price as the Lidl and Aldi hand washes.

Score: 8 / 10

Lidl Cien Cream Soap, 500ml

€0.85 (€1.70 / Lt)

Verdict: We chose orange and white tea and liked the bright, refreshing smell that the orange added.

Our hands didn't feel as soft as with the Tesco soap, but did feel good and clean.

Score: 6.5 / 10

Aldi Abbot & Browne Handwash, 500ml

€0.85 (€1.70 / Lt)

Verdict: The same price again and to be honest there was nothing in it when compared to Lidl's soap in our opinion. We tested the white tea and almond milk variety and it is a "mild caring formula". The scent was fresh and not strong and again our hands were left clean but not with that soft feeling.

Score: 6.5 / 10

Spar Hand Soap, 300ml

€1 (€3.33 / Lt)

Verdict: This came last as it was the dearest (albeit from a convenience store) and had the plainest packaging. There was no named scent but it did have a nice soapy smell. It is labeled "extra mild" and we felt this was soft enough on our hands.

Score: 6 / 10
