Stardom calls as a whole new world opens up for Ella

This will be the fourth summer in a row that Ella O'Toole will be tripping the boards of The Helix.

The 12-year-old will be taking part in a three-week Summer Musical Camp in The Helix in Dublin, after which she'll join professionals and amateurs in a full production of the musical Aladdin Jr.

Ella, who's from Balgriffin in north Dublin, loves performance and has previously appeared in Peter Pan, the Wizard of Oz and Annie after taking part in the camps run by Sean Gilligan Productions. As well as dancing and singing for the show, the children aged from six to 18 also help with set and costume design.

Her mother Debbie Hand says the camps have been an amazing experience for Ella and great for building confidence and making new friends. The camps run for three weeks in July followed by a number of show performances in early August.

Debbie says that, as a working mother, the camp's 10am to 4pm hours are better than many shorter options, and it's also useful to find something that engages Ella for a few weeks at a time instead of a one-off. “She's done different types of camps over the years, but this was the one she always asked to go back to.” Camp costs €120 per week, including lunch
