Akita Association of Ireland (akitaassociationofireland.com) Akitas require plenty of upkeep, and this group offers not only the know-how to keep an Akita healthy and happy, but also prizes, shows, lectures and social events to their members.

Cocker Spaniel Club of Ireland (cscoi.ie) Founded in 1929, club members are dedicated to responsible dog ownership and breeding. Log on for information on field trials, shows across the country and plenty of info on the breed.

Golden Retriever Society of Ireland (grsoi.com) Through this club, golden retriever owners occasionally convene at arranged social events and swap tips on obedience, working and dog shows.

Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Ireland (berneseclubireland.com) The club runs several social events a year and also publishes a regular club magazine so owners can bone up on their breed knowledge. North Tipperary Working Gundog Club (northtippworkinggundogclub.com) If you're the owner of a working gundog, this association runs regular field trials and working tests. There is also a 'for sale' section, to help potential buyers avoid puppy farms.
