My Pet: What a pushover!

Mitzy the dog

The longer you stare at something, the more likely you are to get it. For example, I stare at the door, she opens it. I stare at her when she sits down, she lets me sit beside her. I follow her around, she takes me for a walk. I stare as she eats, she feeds me. Simples! Hi everybody, my name is Mitzy!

I'm a Morkie - a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Maltese Terrier - and I live with my carer in Galway. On my first night here, she put me in my bed in a cold dark room and left. Oh dear, that wasn't nice at all. Being in a room all on my own?

I whined, barked and scratched the door. She came down and put me in a warmer room. The next night I got afraid. I barked and whined again. She came down and took my bed up to her nice room. In the morning, I jumped onto her bed. I snuggled beside her - and that was it. I was in.

What a pushover!

Chewing the strings on her rug is one of my favourite things to do. I think it's very satisfying but she makes such a fuss. Honestly, I don't know what the problem is. At times she leaves me with another lady who has lots of dogs. We play all the time, and I like that. She is very nice.

I like to bury my bones in the garden, then try to find them and take them into the house. It's a great game. I hide them behind the cushions on the couch in the living room. She doesn't like that. I don't know why, for a start, it's very handy!

She takes me for walks in the park most days. Sometimes out as far as the sea - and she throws sticks for me to fetch. I am really good at fetching sticks. And I could swim all day. She really likes that, and she laughs a lot. It is good fun.

I take my job as her minder very seriously. I don't like anyone coming near her front garden or door. I really hate that black cat who just stares at me from the neighbour's drive way - so I bark a lot.

I am small but I have a very loud bark. She doesn't like that either.

She loves me, I can tell. I think she is the best. It is all going rather well, really. Did I mention that I am very cute?
