"My first kiss was with Peter Coonan of 'Love/Hate' fame"

Marissa Carter, the creater of Cocoa Brown Tan, on the book which inspired her, that first kiss with a well known actor and the important things in her life.

The book that changed my life

In 2006, I purchased 'Advanced Professional Skincare' by Dr. Peter Pugliese . It inspired me to travel to Philadelphia and complete a Cosmetic Chemistry and Skin Histology course.

The quote that keeps me sane

"No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up." Regina Brett.

The best advice I've ever received

The best advice I ever received was from my husband, Ronan. He told me never to presume to know what goes on in other people's lives. He's the least judgemental person I know and I think that rubs off on me.

The film I've watched again and again

My two-year-old son and I are big fans of 'Toy Story 3'. The only film I've watched over and over is 'Dirty Dancing'. Cheesy, I know.

The scent that evokes pleasant memories

I love my brand's signature scent, Tahitian Gardenia, so much that I manufacture a special batch of body spray, shampoo, conditioner and candles just for my own personal use.

The piece of furniture that will become an heirloom

The patchwork stool/bench  at the end of our bed - it wasn't overly expensive or designer but I love it.

The picture that is worth a thousand words

My favourite photograph was taken when my son was about a week old. It's the three of us - but just our feet.

The item that takes pride of place in my wardrobe

The Irish designer who made my wedding dress, Gay DePaor, also made the dress I wore to Elton John's Oscar party in February.

The sentimental piece of jewellery

A ring  that was passed from my Nana to my mother and then to me. It is gold with a black Onyx stone and was my very first piece of jewellery.

The item I'd save in a fire

I wouldn't save any material items - I'd be too busy getting my family out safely.

The characteristic I like most in myself

I think I'm generous. If I can help, I'll
always try to. I'm the eldest of eight children which I think taught me to share and to be helpful.

And least

I over-think everything and sometimes get stressed because of it.

My first kiss

Was with Peter Coonan of 'Love/Hate' fame. We grew up together and have remained friends.

The last time I cried

It was about a week ago reading 'The Glass Castle' by Jeannette Walls.

It was the best of times

Taking Cocoa Brown to Hollywood and tanning Oscar nominees in the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles this year.

It was the worst of times

My least favourite memory is when my brother, Oisín, was knocked down by a car. His head took most of the trauma and for two weeks we didn't know if he'd survive.

The person I call when things go pear-shaped

My husband is very reasoned and rational which means he's great in a crisis but if I'm not looking for a solution, and just a good old whinge, I'll probably ring my friends.

My death row dinner

If it's my last meal, I would commit absolute 'carbocide': extra spicy homemade meatballs and pasta topped with cheese followed by my grandad's fresh sponge cake or raspberry Pavlova.

Pet Peeves

Bad manners. If I thought I had forgotten to thank someone, it would haunt me.

My four-legged friend

Our bichon frise, Cherry. She's four years old and anyone who knows me will testify to how cracked I am about her.
