IWROTE last week about how good the new Mazda6 was and that it would be on the shortlist for awards at the end of the year. Almost no sooner than this was on the page, the car won the D Segment category at the 2013 Motorcheck.ie Fleet Car Awards, fighting off tough competition from Honda, Hyundai, Skoda and VW.
The 27 shortlisted contenders for this year's awards were subjected to vigorous testing and analysis before the category winners were determined. Marks were awarded to the car's styling, quality, engine and driving performance, equipment levels, safety, residuals and running costs.
Explaining the selection of the all-new Mazda6 as segment winner, the judges summarised: "Stunning looks, lovely drive and smooth ride together with ample boot space."
Accepting the award, Richard Molloy, marketing and PR director, Mazda Ireland, said: "We are delighted the all-new Mazda6 has been chosen as the large saloon car of choice within the fleet sector. Beneath the stunning design package, it's Mazda's SkyActiv Technology that delivers real-world savings for fleet drivers."
The Mazda6 2.2 Diesel Sport model is available from €31,795, with a finance package with monthly repayments of €383 per month.
