VW takes wraps off small concept SUV
THIS is Volkswagen's latest concept car, the Taigun, which hints strongly at how a small SUV based on its new small family platform might look.
Volkswagen's city car up! is based on the same platform.
The Taigun is 3.86 metres long and 1.73 metres wide, but has good cabin space because of its 2.47 metre wheelbase.
A new 1-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (110bhp) powers it through a manual six-speed gearbox.
The tailgate is split, with the top two-thirds opening upwards and the bottom third folding down to make loading easier.
The cabin is straightforward (headroom 1,036mm at front and 980mm at the rear) and Volkswagen say controls are "pared back to a minimum".
The front air nozzles individually control the direction of the air flow as well as the blower speed and temperature (displayed within the nozzle).
The central infotainment system can pair with the majority of smartphones.
Volkswagen says they will gauge public reaction before making a decision on whether or not to go into production with the Taigun.
