Volkswagen and BMW recall cars
TWO motoring giants -- Volkswagen and BMW -- are recalling cars here.
The Volkswagen Group has begun contacting owners of 2,112 cars with a specific 2-litre TDI engine. They say the recall is due to scoring on the fuel pipes which can crack and leak diesel. The affected cars are from 2009 onwards.
Models included are some versions of the VW Passat (1,963 in total), Skoda Octavia and Superb (143).
A small number of Audi A3 models (six) are affected but no SEAT or VW commercials are involved. A spokesman said the repairs can be carried out "while-you-wait". Customers with affected cars can call: Volkswagen 1850-812-761, SKODA 1850-812-764, Audi 1850-812-760.
BMW is recalling 292 MINIs here after makers detected an electrical fault.
The German giant, which owns MINI, said the recall concerns 235,000 vehicles worldwide.
The models involved are the Mini Cooper S and the Mini John Cooper Works.
Safety checks revealed a problem which can cause the water pump to fail, potentially causing the car to overheat. The work takes about an hour.
The MINI customer service line is 1890 719423.
