The pride invested in this bustling showroom shines through

IT was a crisp morning when we visited the City of the Tribes and our first port of call was to Monaghan and Sons.

It is an impressive-looking Skoda dealership from the outside.

We parked up our 07 Skoda Superb and took a stroll around the garage forecourt.

We saw a good mix of used cars, some of which were priced and all were presented in a clean fashion.

We noted the disabled parking bay at the side and 11 marked customer parking spaces out front of house.

The high standards we saw outside were carried through to the showroom.

Inside, we counted 10 new Skoda models, including three Citigos and the new Skoda Rapid.

Although there was no receptionist, we were no time inside when a tall young salesman came to us and introduced himself as Joe Monaghan.

We focused on the Skoda Rapid, which he said had only been launched a few days prior to our visit.

The model was the top Elegance version and had a standard of equipment we had become accustomed to with our own Superb.

We asked him to price the cost of change against the display model.

In the meantime, Joe walked around the car with us, opened the doors, invited us to sit inside, opened the large boot and spoke about the storage space on offer.

Good boot space is a Skoda DNA feature, we have come to appreciate.

We handed Joe the keys to our car and let him off for a quick drive.

We checked out see the fine customer-waiting area.

Besides the usual drinks on offer, there was a dispenser with Minstrel sweets in it.

Looking around the well-stocked showroom it was evident that a lot of pride was vested in this place.

Everything -- from cars and accessories to brochures -- was tastefully presented. The showroom was also warm, well lit and had a welcome feeling to it.

It was also good to see the footfall so early on a Saturday morning and it's fair to say there was great life about the place.

Back with our car, Joe Monaghan invited us to his open-plan desk.

He viewed the 'Car Sales Guide' and offered us €5,750 for our car. He had noticed that our R/R electric window was not working.

Other than that, he praised the car's condition but said the high road tax on it was a disadvantage and hence curtailed the allowance.

Writing down the price details on the back of the used-car list of 40 vehicles, Joe apologised for the fact that he had no Rapid brochure yet and also no business card.

He wrote down the details, his name and mobile and how much we would have to part with along with our car, to trade -- €19,750.

Before we left, we talked for a few moments and admired the white Skoda Yeti and the accessories attached.

"I might be able to go another few euro, making it €6,000 or so, if you decide on the SUV," he said.

Joe handed us a Yeti brochure and wished us well.
