McLAREN'S hybrid super car, the P1, has zipped around the famous Nürburgring circuit in less than seven minutes. Now we have to wait to see what the exact time is, with speculation that it could beat the 6min 57sec lap completed by a Porsche 918 Spyder in September 2013. The P1 streamed around the 12.9-mile Nordschleife track in Germany at an average speed of more than 111mph. Chris Goodwin, McLaren's chief test driver says: "I have only experienced acceleration like this before in a Formula 1 car." The P1 hits 100kmh in 2.8 seconds -- repeat, 2.8 seconds. The hybrid powertrain develops a monumental 903bhp thanks to the combination of the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol and an electric motor. A total of just 375 of the P1s will be built. And unless you have been quicker off the mark than 2.8 seconds, each and every one of them has been sold. Each car costs more than €1m and takes a mere 17 days to build.
