Star of the show: Mercedes start new C-Class at €37,750
THE new Mercedes C-Class saloon is unveiled here today and prices will start at €37,750, writes Eddie Cunningham.
However, the first to arrive is the C220CDI 2.2-litre (170bhp) diesel which costs €43,300 (103g/km, 4l/100km and €190 road tax).
There are also two petrols here now: a 156bhp C180 1.6-litre costing €37,750 (€200 road tax) and a C200 2-litre (184bhp) at €39,500 (€270 road tax).
We'll have to wait until September for the other versions, including a C300 Hybrid.
The C-Class accounts for 20pc of Mercedes sales in Ireland.
When the full range is here there will be five diesel and four petrol versions.
Petrols (C180, C200, C250, C300) will start at €37,750 and diesels (C180, C200, C220, C250 BlueTEC models and C300 diesel hybrid) will cost from €37,950 ex-works.
There are three trim/spec levels: Avantgarde has the famous star in the grille; Exclusive with the star on the bonnet, and an AMG line.
There is more room due to an 80mm longer wheelbase, 95mm longer body and 40mm wider frame.
Average fuel consumption is down 20pc thanks partly to a 100kg weight loss.
There are 6spd manual and 7G automatic transmissions. The suspension can be adjusted electronically. Air suspension is an option. There is an extensive infotainment display, interactive touchpad and a range of apps.
