Seat adds estate to stable with its ST
SEAT'S new Leon ST is expected to get here in November and will start around the €20,000 mark.
The ST is the first Leon estate and is now the third model in the stable – it already has the 3dr SC and 5dr hatch.
The 587-litre boot can stretch to 1,470 litres with the rear seats folded.
We're told the rear-seat backrests are easy to fold down and a double floor makes the boot easy to access.
Helping generate all that space is the 27cm longer rear, pushing its overall length to 4.54 metres.
The engines are the same as for the SC and 5dr hatch, with start/stop and energy recovery systems.
There is the 1.2-litre TSI (105bhp), 1.4-litre TSI (140bhp) and 1.8-litre TSI available in the FR only with 180bhp.
The 1.6-litre diesel (105bhp) will be a big seller, while the 2-litre with 150bhp has plenty of performance.
And if you're looking for sporty driving there is the 184bhp 2-litre diesel – again on the FR only.
At 1,233kg, the ST is just 45kg heavier than the 5dr.
They are pushing a lot of technology such as adaptive cruise control (ACC), adaptive chassis control (DCC) – on FR versions – and progressive steering.
Meanwhile, SEAT's new boss Jurgen Stackmann says a new SUV is still very much on the cards. Previous boss James Muir said an SUV would hit the forecourts in 2015.
