Reader recommends: A car that accomodates three child seats
Every week, Eddie Cunningham and Aidan Timmons team up to help readers make the right choice with their next car. For a change here's a reader's suggestion. Might be of help:
I've noticed a lot of your readers are looking for a car that accommodates three across the back, but not an MPV. I've three small children (all under three) and I ran into similar problems. I just want to point out that the Honda CR-V 2015 and onwards can accommodate three group 0/1 seats neatly and safely together. It comes in a 1.6D economical engine plus looks great too.
Aidan, Eddie: Excellent suggestion. You can't beat real-world experience, so readers looking for an SUV to accommodate three child seats take note - the Honda CR-V will deliver. Now, to add our tuppence. The 1.6-litre diesel CR-V launched late in 2013 (on the 132-plate), but it was realistically more of a 141-plate car. Expect to spend around €20,000 (more if you want a younger model), and prices will vary if the car has low mileage or extra kit.
If you are putting up the kilometres, it is worth spending a bit extra on a low-mileage model. ES variants were most popular and should be the focus of your search. There are 4WD versions of the CR-V, but there is also a 2.2-litre diesel engine.
