Peugeot's power pack gets here next month
THIS is the most powerful road car Peugeot has produced -- and it gets here next month.
The RCZ R two-seater sports coupe, unveiled on the French Riviera yesterday, follows in the tyre tracks of the snazzy RCZ Racing Cup track car which debuted in 2010. This has sportier lines, lowered suspension and a raft of engineering upgrades.
The 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine pumps a whopping 270bhp -- much the same as the Racing Cup car and 70bhp more than the standard model. It does 0-100kmh in 5.
It is likely to cost around €50,000 or €8,000 more than the original.
On a challenging test route of hairpins, among them the infamous Col de Vence, it was exceptionally sharp, with firm ride, responsive steering and loads of power.
The exhaust has a special 'sound system' to amplify the sporting nature of the engine though it was a bit gruff on start-up. The suspension/body is much stiffer and the car rides on two-tone 19ins alloys. Gearshift is impeccable.
The cabin has body-hugging bucket-seats and I liked the way the instrumentation is laid out.
Full price and spec will be announced in December. Sales will be limited but Peugeot see it as its flagship of technical advances.
