my side of the road

It is lovely to see mums and dads out cycling with their children at weekends. Healthy, fun – and dangerous.

It is something I touch on with trepidation because it is sensitive. However, I have had to take evasive action a few times recently where the child could have – didn't – dinked out on to the road. He/she was not being properly minded.

Nothing drastic or dramatic happened but it was sufficient to raise the alarm. Smaller children on bicycles or trikes on cycle paths near or parallel to busy traffic routes warrant the greatest attention.

Take your eyes off them for a second and anything can happen. I'm saying no more because I don't want to be accused of dramatising, but I've seen enough this past couple of weeks to feel compelled to bring it to your notice.
