I'm saddened from writing obituaries.

These past couple of years, far too many old friends and colleagues have passed on.

The latest is the late, and great, Joe Gantly. In his day he was 'Mr Fiat' in Ireland.

He was, quite simply, a genius at getting prominence for his brands.

His enthusiasm for new models often convinced even the most cynical of us.

We had our moments of disagreement, he and I, when even his enthusiasm couldn't persuade me some models were of as stellar a nature as he perceived.

But it never strayed beyond the professional. Never.

Joe wasn't like that.

Too much of a gentleman.

Which, of course, is what he was to his fingertips.

A thorough professional and an absolute gentleman. I'm just so, so sorry to think of him not being around any more.

He'll be sorely missed by his family - and all who knew him.

RIP, gentleman Joe.
