The little Matiz was one of the better city cars and accounted for one-third of Chevrolet's sales in Europe over the past five years.
Now it must make way for the 5dr Spark, built on the marque's global platform that is due to go on sale later this spring.
By 2013 it will be on sale in more than 100 countries worldwide.
It will be built initially in South Korea before production lines open in India and the US, and will have two petrol engines -- a 1-litre (995cc, 68bhp, and 119g/km emissions putting into the lowest tax band) and a 1.2-litre (1,206c, 81bhp with 119g/km as well).
Both engines come with a five-speed manual gearbox, putting it among the best in class for small cars.
It recently got a four-star Euro NCAP rating (with 69 out of a possible 100 points, it was just one point short of a five-star gong).
We await it with interest. It will have to be good to live up to the Matiz.
