How old is your dealership and who runs it?

My father bought a premises in Wexford in 1985 and got the Daihatsu dealership shortly afterwards. We moved to our current location in 1992 and were appointed Honda dealers in late 1995. After a family tragedy in 1996, when I lost two brothers in a car accident, I took over running the dealership at the age of 23.

What's your own background?

I left school at 15 to pursue my fondness of cars and work with my father in the business. I educated myself in the parts, warranty and accounts areas with the help of some night courses.

What does your job involve?

My main job is car sales. I sell new and used cars, source quality used cars if we don't have something suitable in stock and help my customers to upgrade or downgrade – whatever they need.

What's the most difficult part of your job?

Trying to stay in business at the moment between bank loans, rates, employment costs etc. It goes on and on with little reward but we hope to ride out the storm.

Have you ever found it difficult being a woman in a man's world?

Not difficult because I would like to think I'm as good as, if not better than, any of them. But it can be very frustrating. The amount of times I have to say, "yes, this IS the sales department."

Women seem to come and go in the motor industry. Why do you think they don't stick it?

It is a male-dominated industry and I suppose one can feel a little intimidated. You need to be well able to stand up for yourself. Also, you need to have a real love of cars. I've rallied for years and I'm also heavily involved with motor sport and classic cars.

If you had a limitless budget what would be your dream car?

I am very loyal to Honda and recently purchased a 1999 Honda S2000 which is great fun. But I would fancy a Ferrari 458 in red.
