Here comes the sun for the new hybrid Ford C-MAX
FORD has unveiled a sun-powered C-MAX. They call it the Solar Energi Concept and claim it has the potential to match the efficiency of a plug-in hybrid without having to depend on an electricity grid for fuel.
It uses a special concentrator which works like a magnifying glass in directing sun rays to solar panels on the vehicle roof.
Ford's solar technology partner SunPower provides solar cells for the roof of the Ford concept. And the Georgia Institute of Technology has found a way to amplify the sunlight so the car is suitable for everyday use.
With a full charge the C-MAX has a range of more than 990km (620 miles) including up to 32km on electric only.
Now Ford will start testing the car to see if is feasible as a production car.
