Garage watch: Castle Service Garage Ltd, Bray, Wicklow
Dealership hits the marque when it comes to blending in
SO many towns don't have what we found in Bray, Co Wicklow.
Right in the heart of the Wicklow town we came across a fairly special Subaru dealer.
This is what a town garage premises should look like. It blends easily into the local environment and brings life to the urban setting.
For many reasons, space and planning being just some, garages have been banished to town and city outskirts.
Many languish in large grey, often cold-looking industrial estates.
The car showroom has disappeared from the High Street only to be replaced by takeaways and brash signage.
Before we entered this showroom we noted a nice selection of used cars parked outside.
Availing of paid parking across the street we set about checking the 17 odd cars which had prices and details attached.
We saw a lovely 2009 Impreza diesel, so went in search of more information.
Derek Bradshaw met us and invited us into his office where he provided full details of the vehicle.
While he was printing the details we counted 11 cars in the showroom, all presented immaculately and carrying the necessary information.
We noted tea/coffee facilities but not much space set aside for customers to wait.
The single toilet was maintained to the high standard we found both outside and inside the premises.
The Impreza had just 7,800km on the clock. Derek spoke of the relief for the marque now they had the new Boxer diesel.
It was priced approximately €4,000 less than a new car and Mr Bradshaw said he could discount it by €1,000.
We decided we would not take a test drive but thanked the man for his time. We left with his business card stapled on to the car's spec sheet.
