Electric, diesel and hybrid Golf models on the horizon
GOLF models keep on coming. Next month, the top diesel will debut in Geneva – claiming more than 67mpg.
And next year, there will be a plug-in hybrid that can do – they claim – 188mpg. Yes, 188mpg (35g/km). Can't wait to drive that.
It has a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine (148bhp) and a 100bhp electric motor and is no slouch as a result (220kmh, 0-100kmh in 7.6sec). It is a 2014 arrival.
Expect the diesel with its transversely mounted 2-litre 4cyl (181bhp, 109g/km emissions) in the summer. Again, it is reasonably lively (0-100kmh in 7.5secs, top speed 228kmh).
Oh! yes, and there will be an electric Golf with a 175km range and a five-hour recharge time from a household socket.
