Simon Delaney on cars and road rage: 'I do get the odd plank who shouts at me on the road'
Actor and presenter of How's Your Driving? Simon Delaney talks cars, passengers and road rage
Your current car - Love at first sight or just a means to get from A to B?
I love my current car. I drive a Subaru crossover. Fantastic car, great mileage and the safest car on the road.
What do you like about it/not like about it?
Safety features are top-notch and as someone who spends a lot of time on the road, comfort is key. This has it, in spades.
What's under the bonnet?
An 2.0-litre beast. That's as technical as I can get.
Have you ever used a car for romantic pursuits?
A gentleman never kisses and tells. Enough said.
What does it say about you?
That I take my choice of car seriously.
What state is your car in?
How would you describe your driving, then?
Cautious, yet confident. I've had my full licence for a long time, but am still learning.
Any bad habits?
Plenty. Lots of bad language, and overuse of the phone, which I've now stopped after filming How's your Driving? for RTÉ.
Ever crashed, got a ticket or points?
Yes and yes.
Have you ever experienced road rage?
Just the odd plank shouting at me. But I give as good as I get! Don't we all?
What was your first car?
A white Mazda 121 bubble car. It was a company car. I would never have bought it!
Who taught you to drive?
A very patient man from my local driving school in Raheny, Dublin. My late father would never have taught me; he had very little patience and I think teaching me would have pushed him over the edge!
Any driving test tales?
Passed first time. No incidents, thankfully.
What's in the boot and the glove compartment?
Cookbooks, packaging samples for my new food truck [Simply Simon's - the Authentic NYC Deli] opening in Kildare Village on April 25, and three boxes of O'Donnell's crisps, which belong to the food truck, honestly.
Do you have a favourite car gadget?
The tune-in radio app. Love it. Can listen to any radio station through the car radio.
What music do you listen to on the road?
Either talk radio or Eighties music.
Dream drive in a dream location?
Lake Garda, Italy. In that white Mazda 121. Only kidding. In a Ferrari.
Who would be your dream passenger? Why?
Apart from Mrs D, probably Peter Ustinov. The conversation would flow, as well as the wine.
Passenger you'd least like?
Trump. No explanation necessary.
