IT won't get here until late in the year but they are promising us an 'experience'.

SEAT's Leon-based X-PERIENCE is a permanent four-wheel drive, all-road estate and marks another step into a new market segment for the re-emerging brand.

It will have the well-known Volkswagen 2-litre TDi engine (150bhp, 184bhp) so it won't be short on performance.

They say that's that as far as adding more models to the Leon range (for now anyway) as we already have the 2dr SC, 5dr, ST estate and Cupra.

This has all-road suspension and extra ground clearance to go with more robust looks.

The four-wheel EDS dynamic control system means you get electronic differential locks on both axles, extended electronic diff lock for better grip while cornering (XDS – makes a hell of a difference) and a multi-collision brake system.

They say the likes of 4WD, and that XDS system, keep it on the straight and narrow regardless of underfoot conditions – snow, gravel or tarmac. We'll see.

It has protection moulding on door sills and wheel arches, big air intakes and integrated fog lamps out front as well as an aluminium-look front spoiler.

Chrome tailpipes are standard on the 184bhp version. With the large wheel arches you can have 17ins or 18ins wheels while the roof rails are finished in black.

It gets its own trim inside – brown Alcantara or all-black leather seats are options.

LED headlights, ACC adaptive cruise control with city emergency brake function, drowsiness detection and lane-keeping assistant all feature as options too.

There is a large luggage area (587 litres – up to 1,470 with the rear seats folded).

Looking forward to the experience.
