VW decide their Sharan will be sold in Ireland
Volkswagen have reversed their decision on their large people carrier, the Sharan, and decided to put it on sale here after all.
Not just that but, having made the decision, they are putting it into practice immediately.
In other words the car is on sale as and from, well, right now, I'm reliably told.
The large seven-seater - it has three rows - was always popular here over the years. However, people carriers at that end of the market faded from the scene a bit over the past few years (though the SEAT Alhambra has done well).
Now however, there seems to be renewed interest and on that basis, as well as the fact that Ford have a new Galaxy imminent, Volkswagen have decided to go with the Sharan.
It is powered by a 2.0 TDI 150bhp (up 10bhp on the previous version) diesel engine with the manual costing €41,000. Road tax is €270. There is also a DSG version which costs €44,000 and incurs €280 road tax.
All versions have LED rear lights and 16ins alloys. And to give it a good start they tell me there will be a free Discover Media Navigation system, free reversing camera and electric sliding doors for 152.
Other elements include a completely foldable front passenger seat, cup holders in each of the three rows of seats, retractable and removable luggage compartment cover, overhead storage compartments, drawers under the front seats, folding tables on the back of the front seats etc.
And there is a multifunction display, cruise control, climatic air con, rain sensor, USB interface iphone/ipod,12v socket in luggage compartment 6.5ins 'Composition Media' radio system with CD player and eight speakers as well as auto dimming interior mirror, start/stop technology, DAB digital radio receiver and electric parking brake including hill-hold.
