Volkswagen is aiming to have its electric-vehicle retail network completed by the middle of the year as it gears up for the EV era.

With the addition of 11 new 'BEV (battery electric vehicle)-enabled' retailers at the end of 2018, half the VW network is now in a position to sell such cars. All 34 of their network will be rolled out by mid-year, the company says.

Dealers have to meet exacting standards on tooling, training, servicing and product knowledge.

In Dublin, Frank Keane, Deansgrange and Joe Duffy North now join existing Joe Duffy, Swords and Frank Keane Liffey Valley as 'enabled'. In Kildare, Sheehy Motors, Naas has been a BEV retailer since early 2018. In Louth, the BEV retailer is Western Motors, Drogheda. Newmarket Motors, Cork has changed from plug-in to BEV retailer, while Blackwater Motors, Fermoy, joins Blackwater Motors, Cork City.

In Cavan, Brady's of Arva is now a BEV retailer. Western Motors, Galway and Kevin Connolly, Sligo will serve the west. Frank Hogan is appointed in Limerick, while Michael Moore's two retailers in Athlone, Portarlington will serve customers in the area. Pierse Motors, Tipperary and Volkswagen Wexford have been changed from PHEV retailers to full BEV retailers.
