Touareg arrives for 182-reg as VW sketch out the future
THIS is a teaser sketch of Volkswagen's new large SUV, the Touareg, which they will roll out for its world premiere at Beijing on March 23.
Of course they claim it will be better in all sort of ways. We will find out just how much when it arrives in time for 182-registration.
One thing we do know is that four-wheel drive will be standard.
But the Irish operation have outlined one particularly pertinent fact to us. The new one will not be available as an N1 model (lower VRT and road tax in specific circumstances).
That means there should be a fair bit of demand for the current one before it goes.
The reason the global premiere is to take place in China is simple enough: it's the world's strongest growing SUV market.
Volkswagen also claim there is a "phalanx" of assistance systems on board and the SUV has one of the largest digital cockpits (Innovision) in its class.
They claim this creates a whole new type of infotainment environment. I like the phrase, "Its connectivity makes it a driving internet node".
The third generation SUV (first 2002) has sold in copious quantities with hopes of even greater pick-up as demand for such vehicles is predicted to further increase.
