Scandal, what scandal? VW group cars top most European best-seller lists

It may have been at the centre of one of motoring's biggest scandals but VW still tops the sales lists in more European markets than any other marque.

A report from market analysts JATO Dynamics shows how the Golf and Skoda Octavia score heavily in many markets.

The Clio fared well too, while the Hyundai Tuscon is Ireland's best seller.

Here's a quick run through of the countries and the cars.

Austria: 1. Volkswagen Golf. 2. Skoda Octavia. 3. VW Tiguan. Belgium: Golf, Renault Clio, Hyundai Tucson. Croatia: Octavia, Clio and Golf.

Czech Republic: Skoda Octavia, Fabia and Rapid. Denmark: Peugeot 208, Volkswagen up! Nissan Qashqai. Estonia: Octavia, Toyota Avensis, RAV4.

Finland: Octavia, Qashqai, VW Golf. France: Renault Clio, Peugeot 208, Citroën C3.

Germany: Volkswagen Golf, Mercedes C-Class, VW Passat. Greece: Toyota Yaris, Opel Corsa, Fiat Panda. Hungary: Suzuki Vitara, Skoda Octavia, Opel Astra.

Ireland: Hyundai Tucson top for 2017 so far, followed by Golf and Nissan Qashqai.

Italy: Fiat Panda, Lancia Ypsilon, Fiat 500. Latvia: Nissan Qashqai, Golf, Kia Sportage. Lithuania: Fiat 500, Skoda Octavia, Fiat 500X. Luxembourg: Volkswagen Golf, Tiguan, Audi A3. Netherlands: Renault Clio, Opel Karl, Volkswagen up!.

Norway: Volkswagen Golf, BMW i3, VW Passat. Poland: Skoda Octavia, Fabia, Opel Astra.

Portugal: Renault Clio, Peugeot 208, Renault Mégane. Romania: Dacia Logan, Dacia Duster, Skoda Octavia.

Slovakia: Skoda Octavia, Fabia, Rapid.

Slovenia: Peugeot 3008, Renault Clio, Volkswagen Golf.
