ESTATE sales here are moving up.

Now they're going to get a further shot in the arm with the announcement that Volkswagen have
decided to bring in their estate version of the
new Golf.

I understand it will get here in October and prices will start from under the €23,000 mark.

It has been some time (the MK4) since we had a Golf estate but its
arrival will mean three in the
lineup now: the hatch and SV being the others.

It has 605 litres of boot/cargo but that shoots up to 1,620-litres with the rear seats folded flat.

Obviously it shares much with the hatch. It's built on the MQB platform and has the same wheelbase.

Expect an engine range similar to the hatch but
I'm told the 1.6-litre
diesel (110bhp) will rack up the majority of sales.

They have yet to announce full spec and
pricing but around €23,000 won't be far from the
entry-level starting price.
