Runway Club: See how fast your car can go on Weston Airport runway
After a successful debut event last year, Runwayclub Live is coming back to Weston Airport on April 14.
The idea is simple: bring your own car along and see how fast it can go on a one-mile stretch of the main runway. Cars are divided into classes depending on their power; this time around there will be drag races too.
We got a great taste of the event at Weston recently. There was some impressive machinery, including a Ferrari 458, Lamborghini Gallardo as well as M2 and M4 models from BMW.
We only had part of the runway available so we weren't truly able to stretch the cars to their limits but it gave us some flavour of what to expect in April.
I also had a go in an Audi R8 convertible. It was a lovely, crisp day so we kept the top down. By the braking point we were getting a severe buffeting from the wind but it blew the cobwebs away nicely.
This year's event is open to spectators for the first time so it's an ideal opportunity to see some very special cars up close and in action on the runway. There will also be a drift show, a classic car show and other family events running throughout the day.
A limited number of spectator passenger runs will be available, with proceeds going to charity.
