Garage attendant writes off £300,000 Ferrari 599 GTO after mistaking brake for accelerator

A parking attendant in Italy has rammed a £300,000 Ferrari GTO into a shop saying that he had mistaken the accelerator pedal for the brake. He was delivering the sports car back to it's owners after a meeting of Ferrari enthusiasts, driving across Rome to the Hotel Exedra before the accident happened.

"I got confused – instead of the brake, I pressed down on the accelerator," he told police who were first on the scene, according to Corriere della Sera. He was lightly injured and in a state of shock after the accident and received treatment in hospital.

Powered by a V-12 engine, the Ferrari 599 GTO has a top speed of more than 200mph.
