Deadlines concentrate the mind like nothing else, and there is a motoring one looming that could save thousands for some buyers.

Time is running out for anyone looking to buy a five-seater commercial in what they call the N1 category. There are potentially major savings.

Take the current Volkswagen Touareg N1 commercial. This is a five-seater that costs significantly less than passenger versions, but the deadline is July 30 (vehicles have to be registered on that date at the latest). It's also interesting in the case of the Touareg that models have a technology pack, worth more than €5,500, that just costs €1,499. Quite a few have R-Line trim too.

The real story is cost. The big VW costs €62,295 (incl VAT). The full retail price of its passenger counterpart could be as much as €23,400 more. Yes, €23,000plus. For those with a VAT-registered business, it's a hell of a way to beat a deadline.
