MINI festival set to kick off in Westport this weekend
It's going to be a giant Mini 'hug zone' at Westport, Co Mayo, over the next few days.
They are all set for the mega MINI fest as a flood of models, old and new, take centre stage at what is shaping up to be a major meet of people from all over the world who just love those little cars.
The gig gets under way at Westport House from tomorrow, and runs all the way to Sunday.
And with the prospect of lovely summer weather, what better place to be?
Described by some as a 'MINI' version of the Electric Picnic, the event is expected to attract close to 3,000 fans as well as 1,200 Minis of all shapes and sizes, new and old - all presented by their loving owners.
The guests of honour scheduled to open the festival include Irish motor racing legend Mervyn Johnson and Paddy Hopkirk, who won the Monte Carlo Rally in a classic Mini in 1964.
The event, organised by the Irish MINI Owners Club, will have lots of other fun stuff too.
They range from a MINI treasure hunt along the Wild Atlantic Way to a Puc Fada competition, a MINI owners' Club Olympic Games, slalom races and much more.
It's hard to believe it is all the name of one little car created all those years ago (and now going strong under BMW) .
But that's what Minis have always been about - being fun and 'huggable'.
