Mazda3 from €26,000; rare cars on show
The long-awaited new Mazda3 (pictured) has just arrived and will cost from €26,295.
Initially just the hatchback version has gone on sale. But there will soon be two body types as the saloon gets here in June.
However, from the start there are two engines; a 2-litre petrol Skyactiv-G and a 1.8-litre diesel Skyactiv-D.
The much-heralded 2-litre petrol Skyactiv-X, with its claims of diesel-like consumption, is scheduled for later in the year.
Mazda says this engine combines the benefits of both petrol and diesel through spark and compression ignition.
Mild hybrid technology is standard on all the petrol powerplants.
The arrival of the '3' marks a busy few months for Mazda as the company awaits not just the saloon but also the CX-30 crossover later on.
A NUMBER of rare and expensive cars will be on display at the Malahide Classic and Vintage Motor Show, which takes place at the Grand Hotel on Sunday, May 26, next.
The eighth year of the event will showcase an extremely rare 1926 Minerva AF Towncar (a Belgian make once owned by an Irish-American boxer).
It will be among 100 beautiful old cars on display. Others on show range from Rolls Royce to Jensen, Mustang to Cadillac, Jaguar, Mercedes, Porsche and so on.
The show is a charity fundraiser, organised by Malahide Lions Club, and will open at 11am. Its new sponsorship partner is Axa Insurance. Entrance costs €5 for adults or €15 for families.
Proceeds will go to the Debra Ireland charity which supports those with the severe 'butterfly' skin condition EB.
