The all-new Mazda MX-5 roadster will come to Ireland in August – with prices starting from €27,995.

The new little sports car is all about its back-to-basics design, with the emphasis on lower weight and driving – it is powered by a new 1.5 litre petrol engine with 131bhp.

The base model will come as standard with LED headlights, 16ins alloys, air conditioning, cruise control, Bluetooth, leather multi function steering wheel and a 7ins  touch screen incorporating USB iPod connectivity.

GT spec (€2,000 more) adds 16ins gun metal grey alloys, full black leather interior with heated seats, nine-speaker Bose sound system, rear parking sensors, adaptive front lights, keyless entry and lane departure warning.

Shorter, lower and wider than the current car, it’s the lightest MX-5 since the Mk I version, bringing with it the best power-to-weight ratio for the model. It also comes with 50:50 weight distribution which augurs well for handling prowess.

It looks so much better in the flesh than the pictures.

Let’s hope the weather stays fine for its arrival in August – the car was made to be driven with the hood down and the wind blowing in your hair.
