End-of-month push for sales puts buyers in the driving seat

With little more than a week to go to the end of the month and with new-car sales down 12pc so far this year, it's a good time to go drive yourself a good bargain.

Many dealers and distributors are under pressure to shift metal to meet targets so your business has seldom been as valuable.

January sets the tone for the year in terms of individual and overall sales.

A sluggish enough start can mean dealers are struggling to play catch-up all through the year.

Some of the deals out there are singularly appealing - but with the amount of uncertainty surrounding Brexit, in particular, buyers are not exactly flocking in their droves to purchase.

And that means there are probably even better deals to be hammered out as we enter the final days of this crucial month.

The best advice is the oldest: check around and find out for yourself.

But before you part with your money check that the car you are thinking of buying is the latest model and not a run-out version.

If it is, I think you should wait for the newer one. Remember, February and March will spawn their own deals too. As Motors detailed last week there are a lot of new and revised cars coming on the market this month and into Spring.

An example (among many it must be said) of a new/facelifted motor is Renault's Kadjar (pictured above) which has just gone on sale - from €26,995.

The distributors here claim buyers can save more than €4,000 as there is 1.91pc PCP/HP, €1,000 cashback and three years' servicing.

Many other brands are competing at high levels too - so it is fertile ground for you.
