Electric sales could hit 5,000 in two months
Electric and hybrid car buying is forecast to rise even more sharply early next year.
A report by Cartell.ie, for upcoming International Car Tech and Mobility Summit organisers Electronomous and Mobility X, forecasts a dramatic increase in EV buying.
It anticipates more than 3,000 new EVs being bought in the first two months of 2020, but says the figure could surge to 5,000. It says most EVs will be in the low €30,000s.
Electric and hybrid vehicle buying is up sharply already this year, but the Cartell.ie report says it is only a foretaste of things to come in 2020.
"Combined with a growth in the numbers of people buying new cars in this price bracket and the recent consumer trend towards buying an EV, the market could be prime for EV and hybrid sales in 2020/21."
Hybrid sales growth continues on an equivalent level to EVs.
The report notes: "The advantage with the hybrid is that it is much closer to what the average consumer is already familiar with and it fends off so-called range anxiety. The case for the EV turns more on the additional environmental benefits a car of this type delivers."
