TALK about going from the ridiculous to the sublime. I’ve just hammered around Mondello in a van. That was the Volkswagen Caddy Edition 30, 2-litre TDI 140bhp van with nothing added – except me.

It’s all part of a Volkswagen Group day at the famous track.

I swept around too in a rally-like SEAT Leon 1.8-litre TSI 180bhp.

And then there is the 300bhp Golf R and the SEAT Leon Cupra.

But the Caddy takes the biscuit. I wasn’t the fastest by any means – but it was an experience.

The Volkswagen Group Day is a means whereby motoring writers can catch up with all the models – in advance of the upcoming 152-reg starting from July 1.

The group is responsible for the VW, Audi, SEAT and Skoda brands – passenger and commercial vehicles.

Sales generally for the 152 period are expected to be well up on last year.

And that includes vans!
