For those of you thinking of charging an electric car from your home supply, it is advised that you apply for the €600 Government grant (administered by the SEAI) and then get the charging unit set up.

That's what the SEAI are telling me anyway. Deal with them first.

The grant will not always cover the cost of the unit - and installation fees are extra.

They will/can vary quite a bit depending on what needs to be done.

I HOPE the good weather coincides with the arrival of Skoda's new 'sunshine' Octavia.

The 'Soleil' (which, as you know, means 'sun') is the latest edition of the model.

It comes as a hatchback or as Combi (estate).

There is a turbocharged range of TSI petrol engines including the 1.0 TSI 115bhp; while the 1.6 TDI 115bhp comes with both manual and DSG automatic transmissions.

There are good spec levels with LED headlights, half-leather interior, heated seats (for the cold days) and Skoda Care Connect built into the package.

Prices start from €24,700 for the 1.0 TSI 115bhp.

They expect this Soleil - if not the real sun - to shine for the rest of the year.

Mitsubishi's Eclipse Cross family SUV arrives next year with PHEV technology.

That will be followed soon after by an all-new Outlander PHEV in late 2020.

The current Outlander is claimed to be the world's best-selling PHEV with a 45km EV range.

The combined battery and petrol range of the car is more than 600km.

And there is an eight-year battery and vehicle warranty.

More than 40 years after the previous one, BMW's M performance car division is planning a modern successor to the M1 supercar.

Expect it to debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September. With its advanced carbon-fibre body, the coupé is pencilled in for sale in the early 2020s.

Imagine this: it will have a new 591bhp plug-in petrol-electric drivetrain which will, naturally, power other M models.

It should be some car to drive.
