Can you believe this 38-year-old Ford Fiesta is still knocking around Kildare?
Ford's countrywide search for the oldest Fiesta on our roads has uncovered a 38-year-old model that is still on the go.
It seems the search has attracted a massive response from all over. Yet it must have come as a real delight to the company to discover that one of the cars dates back to 1978.
That's 38 years of motoring for the little hatch - a big achievement for any car.
The Fiesta is 40 years in Ireland this year. That's why they are searching for the oldest and planning big "Fiesta festivities". Already a large number of owners are preparing for the celebration, which will be held in the Maynooth, Co Kildare area on Friday September 30.
A source has been told that as many as 40 cars will join in a special Fiesta convoy.
Expect that there will be a nice blend of quite old and newer cars on show.
And then there is the icing on the cake . . . I am reliably informed that Ben Collins (pictured), who was 'Stig' on 'Top Gear' for many years, is due over to drive the latest and powerful Fiesta ST200 (a whopping 200bhp).
Around 180,000 Fiestas have been bought in Ireland since it first came on stream: more than 17 million have been bought globally.
It's still not too late to participate in the 40-year birthday party if you have an old Fiesta; contact your local dealer.
