Craig Been and Scott Martin have stormed home to take first place in what turned out to be one of the toughest races of his career.

The 25 year old Craig Breen from Waterford has won the second round of the 2015 FIA European Rally Championship, Rally Liepāja in Latvia, after a masterful drive in his Peugeot Rally Academy 208 T16.

It was a Rally of attrition due to most difficult of winter conditions, with thawing ice and slippery wet snow on day one and heavy blizzards and freezing fog on day two still the Irishman came out on top.

At the press conference Breen was asked if he was happy with the outcome. “Very happy – I’m always happy, but today I’m very happy! It was a really good weekend for us. The conditions were very difficult. Yesterday we had a lot of rain and all the snow that had been collected in the stages over the last weeks melted within a couple of hours, so it was really tricky. Today we had the opposite, a lot of snow that came during the night and again in the day, which was blown by the wind and made visibility very difficult. It was quite a unique rally.”

Breen’s last ERC win was last March’s at the Acropolis Rally in Greece, when he gave the Peugeot 208 T16 a big victory on its ERC debut.

The dust won't settle long under the feet of Breen as he's coming home for the Circuit of Ireland which starts of the 2nd of April. "Who can forget the next rally of the year is the Circuit of Ireland and we'll be coming back there with a win under our belts just like last year." said Breen.
