BMW's new X1 is due here in late October and prices will start from €41,310 on-the-road for the sDrive 18d SE (150bhp).
Current X1 diesel prices start at €35,180 for the smaller, less powerful 16d SE sDrive. The current 18d SE (143bhp) sDrive starts at €36,830 but BMW will say there is no comparison when new technology, engines, gearboxes, equipment etc are taken into account.
The 18d sDrive is front-wheel-drive; the other new models at launch will have all-wheel-drive: there will be three diesels and one petrol.
The compact SAV is shorter, wider and 53mm taller but with more internal room.
LED daytime driving lights are standard. There is a 6.5ins iDrive control display or an optional 8.8ins free-standing monitor. Standard equipment will include sat nav and a rear seat bench with three sections of split/folding backrest. One that slides 13cm forwards/backwards is optional.
Indeed, there are myriad options, including the firm's Dynamic Damper Control system. Electronically controlled dampers improve handing and ride.
