The biggest used-car retailer in the North is today opening what it claims will be the country's largest car supermarket.

The Charles Hurst group starts business at its Usedirect Ireland outlet on the western side of Dublin.

They say it is part of a major investment that combines its online and physical presence in the market here.

The subsidiary of automotive retail giant Lookers plc already runs the Dublin Audi Centre in Ballsbridge.

And it has premises at Goatstown and Sandyford.

The new Usedirect division is at the Kingswood Interchange on the Naas Road.

The group claims they have, or will have, the biggest selection of used models in the country.

The impact of their arrival on the scene down here will be interesting to watch, and follow, given the improved state of the new and used car market.

It is interesting to note that Charles Hurst previously traded in Dublin - on Upper Dorset Street from 1927 until the mid-1940s.

Back then it sold Crossley cars and Dennis trucks.
