BMW reveals its all-new electric car
THIS is the first all-electric car - the i3 - made by BMW which was unveiled in London, New York and Beijing today.
It gets here in November and will cost from €33,160. It would cost €10,000 more only for a €5,000 VRT rebate and a Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) grant.
It may be electric but this rear-wheel drive car develops 170bhp - the equivalent of a large diesel or petrol engine.
Powerful lithium-ion batteries, tucked into the underbody, provide the propulsion.
The car can cover 120km on one charge but more expensive models will be able to go further thanks to a special 'range extender' (a small engine to charge the batteries).
BMW Ireland are declining to predict how many people will buy one.
